Case Study: Bill Consolidator Automates Utility Bill Processing

 OPPORTUNITY
Bill consolidators gather data from multiple utility bills for their clients, consolidate the information, add valuable data analysis, and send the information on to their clients. One consolidator was capturing data for 40+ clients by scanning the bill and manual data entry. Some data was being missed or incorrectly entered into their system during this people and time intensive process.

 SOLUTION
EC Power receives the electronic invoice from the utility (telephone, electric, gas, water) company when the account is billed. EC Power formats the bills into an XML format that the client receives. The client is able to do data validation and manipulation prior to database load. Billing data is captured correctly and timely, thereby reducing errors and lag time.

 BENEFIT
The client eliminated large-scale scanning and data entry as well as capturing more information for their consolidated billing. In addition, client has an XML version of the bill that can be used for display. In addition more money was saved when EC Power converted selected utilities from using costly Van communication to FTP and NAESB EDM methods.
